My mail records do show that you wrote to me, but I have no recollection of your letter. I answer only a small fraction of letters I receive. I'm writing a book, a very time-consuming project, so I don't have time to answer more than a few letters. The rest are [PHOTO CUTS OFF]. I would be interested to know why you've chosen to write to me. You may have answered that in your earlier letter, if so I don't remember it. Nor do I remember whether you indicated that you had read my book Technological Slavery published in 2010 by

Dear Brian,
Thanks for your letter of 7/11/14, which I received on 7/30/14. I'm sorry to hear that your back problem forced you to quit your job at the ice house, but it's good that your daughters are working and helping to pay the bills. ...

Dear Brian,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all your kids. This general-purpose greeting-card was made for me 15 years ago by my very good friend Lydia. She supplies me with photocopies of it and I use them for Christmas cards and so forth. As you can see, Lydia is a talented artist.
You may wonder why I'm sending you this card so early. Well, inmates' mail here is monitored by a department called "SIS". Somewhat more than a year ago, a person name Ms. Payne (Payne-in-the-neck) took over as chief of SIS, and she has given the SIS Technicians extra duties that don't leave them enough time for reading inmate's mail. As a result, there often are excessive delays in our mail. I can't be sure a card will arrive in time for Christmas unless I send it a month early.
I hope you got my letters of 8/31/14 & 10/29/14. I also hope that you and your kids are doing well, that you will enjoy yourselves at Christmastime, and that 2015 will be a very good year for all of you.
Best wishes for the holiday season,
Ted
