Dear Mr. Smith:

Too bad you haven’t heard from any of the 3 people to whom I sent your address. Of course, I can’t force them to write to you. I can only give them suggestions.

You ask whether there are any “national organizations that are reputable and share our beliefs.” The question is of somewhat uncertain meaning, since it’s not absolutely clear what beliefs you are referring to or what you would consider to be “reputable.”

If you go to a library and get hold of the Encyclopedia of Associations, you should be able to find in it the names and addresses of some national organizations that are reputable by anybody’s standard and that address the problems of environmental damage. (For example, the Sierra Club.) Unfortunately, these organizations are sure losers, because environmental destructiveness is built into the technoindustrial system. In order to put an end to such destructiveness you would have to get rid of the whole technoindustrial system, which mainstream environmental organizations don’t even contemplate.

There are more-radical groups that, at least in theory, do contemplate getting rid of the technoindustrial system, but they aren’t much good either, because they’ve been taken over by leftists — people who are obsessed with irrelevant issues such as gay rights, women’s rights, animal rights, and so forth. The dominance of leftist types renders these groups useless as instruments for attacking the technoindustrial system. If you want a detailed account of how such a leftist …

… if you can’t find a copy of this book … don’t worry about it. … will order for me books …

Sincerely yours,
Ted Kaczynski
