Between 1978 and 1995, a serial bomber mailed and delivered rigged explosive packages to various people across the country. Several bombings targeted university employees, and after a bomb failed to explode aboard an American Airlines flight and one injured United Airlines president Percy Wood in his Illinois home, the FBI used the code name UNABOM, short for University and Airline Bomber, to refer to the case. This led to the name Unabomber becoming the name used to refer to the suspected serial bomber.

An independent film about the Unabomber is holding open casting calls in Helena on Saturday, Missoula on Sunday and Lincoln on Monday.

The film stars Sharlto Copley, who had a breakout role as the protagonist of the sci-fi film “District 9,” followed by “Elysium,” “The A-Team” and “Maleficent.”

“Ted K” will focus on Ted Kaczynski’s time in Montana, according to a news release. Filming will take place in April and May in Montana and the Lincoln area, where Kaczynski lived alone in a cabin, mailing his anti-technology manifestos and bombs. He killed three people and injured 23 before he was arrested in 1996.

The film is written and directed by Tony Stone and produced by Matt Flanders.

The Helena call is on Saturday, March 10, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Grandstreet Theatre, 325 N. Park Ave.
